Let a1 and a2 be the retardations offered to the bullet by wood and iron, respectively.

For ABC
v21u2=2a1(4) and
02v21=2a2(1)
Adding we get
u2=(4a1+a2)2(1)

For ABC
v22u2=2a2(2) and
0v22=2a1(2)
Adding we get
u2=(2a1+2a2)2(2)

From (1) and (2)
a2=2a1
