Solution

Contributions of Mendel in genetics:

  1. Gregor Mendel deduced the fundamental laws of inheritance through his research on pea plants.
  2. He deduced that genes are inherited in pairs and as separate units, one from each parent.
  3. Mendel studied the segregation of parental genes and their presentation as dominant or recessive traits in the offspring.
  4. Around 29,000 pea plants were used in Gregor's Mendel hybridization experiments.
  5. Mendel chose peas because they had easily visible features, of which there are seven traits that he could manipulate.
