Solution

Step 1: Given data

Molecular mass of Aspirin (C9H8O4): (9×12+8×1+4×16)=180g

Molecular mass of Acetonitrile (CH3CN): (12+3×1+12+14)=41g

Given mass of Aspirin (C9H8O4) : 6.5g

Given mass of solvent Acetonitrile (CH3CN): 450g

Formula for mass percentage: MassofsoluteMassofsolute+Massofsolvent

Step 2: Determination of mass percentage of Aspirin
The mass percentage of Aspirin ( C9H8O4) = Massofaspirin(solute)Massofaspirin(solute)+massofacetonitrile(solvent)

Step 3: Calculation of mass percentage of Aspirin
So, Mass percentage of Aspirin ( C9H8O4) =6.56.5+450×100

= 0.0142×100
which means the mass percentage of Aspirin ( C9H8O4) = 1.42%

Hence, the mass percentage of Aspirin is 1.42%
