Pure substance-

  • It consist of one kind of substance only.

It can be further divided in two parts:

Element - The substance which is made of same kind of substance.

example- gold

Compound- When atoms of two or elements combine chemically in a fixed proportion.

example- hydrogen and oxygen is combined to form water in a fixed proportion.

Mixture-

  • It is a substance that is formed by mixing two or more substances physically in any properties.

Types of mixture:

Homogeneous MIxture- It is one in which there is perfect mixing of the components of the mixture.

Example- Salt solution

Heterogeneous Mixture- A mixture that consists of the physically distinct part each with different properties.

Example- a mixture of sand and water.
