  1. Down syndrome is a genetic defect.
  2. It is also known as trisomy 21.
  3. It is caused due to presence of an extra chromosome 21 as a result of cell division.
  4. This error is known as non-disjunction.
  5. This leads to physical challenges and mental retardation.
  6. A few symptoms of down syndrome are almond-shaped eyes which are slanting, pinky fingers, and weak joints.

Down syndrome and sleep pattern in infants:

  1. Babies suffering from down syndrome have difficulty sleeping as their physical features hinder their sleeping patterns.
  2. The babies may suffer from sleep disorders.
