Food requirements of living beings:

  1. Any substance, which is consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism is known as food.
  2. All living beings consume distinct kinds of food based on their body composition and internal organs.
  3. To survive, all living organisms need water, air, and food.
  4. Animals get their food from plants and other animals that provide them with the energy needed to grow and move.

Based on the kinds of food one consume, the living beings are differentiated into three basic classes:

  1. Herbivores: These are the animals, which feed on plants and the products obtained by them. For example, elephants, cows, goats, etc.
  2. Carnivores: These are the animals, which feed on other animals. For example, lions, tigers, etc.
  3. Omnivores: These are the animals or living beings, which feed on both animals and plants. For example, humans, cats, dogs, etc.
