Sodium atom

Open in App
Solution

Sodium (Na) atom:

Step-1: Write the electronic configuration of Sodium.

The atomic number of sodium is 11.

In an atom, atomic number= Number of protons= Number of electrons= 11.

  • The electronic configuration is the arrangement of electrons in the orbits around the nucleus.

Therefore, electronic configuration= 2,8,1.

Step 2: Draw the diagram.

Represent the nucleus in the centre and 11 electrons in the orbits surrounding the nucleus. The first orbit or K-shell has 2 electrons, the second orbit or L-shell has 8 electrons and the outermost orbit or M-shell has 1 electron.
