Question

Give the advantages and disadvantages of potentiometric titration.

Open in App
Solution

Potentiometric titration:

  1. A laboratory method for determining the concentration of a substance is potentiometric titration.
  2. There is no chemical indication in this approach. The electric potential across the material is measured instead.
  3. Acid-base titration, redox titration, complexometric titration, and precipitation titration are the four types of titration that fall under the category of potentiometric titration.

Advantages of Potentiometric titration:

  1. It is a low-cost titration method.
  2. A little amount of materials is required.
  3. It does not require the use of indicators.
  4. Because no color indications are used, the titration findings are accurate.

Disadvantages of Potentiometric titration:

  1. it is extremely pH-sensitive.
  2. It takes much longer than titration using indicators.
  3. Calibration should be done on a regular basis.
  4. Sensitive in ionic strength
