Solution

  1. In the mixture given to us, we have one solid and two liquids. All the three components form heterogeneous mixture.
  2. Filtration: The process of separating suspended solid matter from a liquid, by causing the mixture to pass through the pores of a filter.
  3. Sand will remain on the filter paper after filtering the mixture.
  4. After this process, we are remaining with water and oil mixture
  5. Then, in a separate funnel, pour the mustard oil and water mixture. The mustard oil will float on top of the water as mustard oil has lower density than water .
  6. Then open the separating funnel's stopcock and pour out the lowest layer of water. The mustard oil will remain separated in the funnel.

we can separate the sand, water, and mustard oil combination through the filtration process and by using a separating funnel.
