If 1AB + CCA = 697 and there is no carry - over in addition, find the value of A + B + C.

Solution

We have, $1 A B + C C A________697$
Since, there is no carry-over in addition,
1 + C = 6
$\Rightarrow$ C = 5
A + C = 9
$\Rightarrow$ A + 5 = 9
$\Rightarrow$ A = 4
and B + A = 7
$\Rightarrow$ B + 4 = 7
$\Rightarrow$ B = 3
Hence, A + B + C = 4 + 3 + 5 = 12
