Question

In a plant population gene S shows four alternate forms- S1,S2,S3,S4, then how many types of genotype and phenotype will be represented respectively

Open in App
Solution

Number of phenotype is given by the formula 2^n where n is alternate form of gene so total phenotype is equal to 2^4=16 and genotype is given by formula n*(n+1)/2 so genotype will be 10

Number
Of types for a given number of alleles Given n alleles at a locus, the number genotypes possible is the sum of the integers between 1 and n:
  • With 2 alleles, the number of genotypes is 1 + 2 = 3
  • 3 alleles there are 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 genotypes
  • 4 alleles there are 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10 genotypes.
  • General formula = n.(n+1)/2
So number of genotype =10
