The mRNA which codes for a polypeptide, in nascent form contains non-coding(introns) regions along with coding regions(exons). In order to get rid of introns nascent mRNA undergoes splicing and addition of methyl guanosine triphosphate at the 5’ end known as 5’ capping, which helps in the protection of mRNA from degradation, and transport from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. At the same time addition of poly(A) tail at the 3’ end is known as polyadenylation, which increases the stability of the mRNA and serves as a recognitional signal for the binding of translation factors.
