Question

In which stage do the homologous chromosomes separate?

Open in App
Solution

Anaphase:

  1. During Anaphase stage the homologous chromosomes separate. It is a very rapid stage. The chromosomes are arranged on the equatorial plate for a short period only.
  2. The centromeres of the chromosomes divides into two and the two chromatids of each pair separate. They are now called daughter chromosomes.
  3. These sister chromatids get pulled to opposite side by spindle fibres. Separated chromatids are now called as chromosomes of daughter cell.
