Name the photosensitive pigment present in the rod cells of the retina.

Photosensitive cells in the retina:

  1. The retina forms the light-sensitive region of the eye containing photosensitive cells known as rods and cones.
  2. The receptor cells are 140million in number out of which rods are 130 million.
  3. Rods are sensitive to dim light and are not responsible for seeing color.
  4. The pigment present in them is known as rhodopsin.
