Select the correct option regarding the process of transcription.
RNA synthesis | Reading of template strand | |
A. | 3’ – 5’ | 3’ – 5’ |
B. | 5’ – 3’ | 5’ – 3’ |
C. | 3’ – 5’ | 5’ – 3’ |
D. | 5’ – 3’ | 3’ – 5’ |
During the process of transcription out of two strands of DNA one of the strands act as template or anticoding strand whereas another one acts as coding strand. Template strand is used by RNA polymerase to combine complementary bases during RNA transcription, as it moves from 3’ – 5’ direction.
Coding strand is a sequence strand which codes for the synthesis of RNA strand having a sequence exactly the same as that of coding strand. The RNA strand will be synthesised in the 5’ – 3’ direction. The diagram can easily explain the above statement regarding the direction of RNA synthesis and reading of template strand.
