Solution

The correct option is A

0.1875cm3

Step 1: Given Data

Coefficient of Linear Expansion (α) of iron is 10-5/C

Edge (l) of iron cube is 5cm

Temperature is changed from 10°C to 60°C

To Find: Change in volume of iron cube when heated

Step 2: Recall relation for volume expansion and relation between volume and linear expansion:

ΔVV=γΔT, where γ is the coefficient of volume expansion, ΔV is the change in volume, V is the original volume and ΔT is the change in temperature.
γ=3α, where (α)is the coefficient of linear expansion.

Step 3: Calculate change in volume

Using the above two formulas, we can get,

ΔVV=3αΔT

ΔV=3α×V×ΔT

ΔV-3α×l3×T2-T1

ΔV=3×10-5/C×(5cm)3×60°C-10°C

ΔV=3×10-5×(125)×(50)

ΔV=0.1875cm3

The change in volume will be ΔV=0.1875cm3
Hence option A is correct.
