The greenhouse effect is a warming of Earth's surface and the air above it.
It is caused by gases in the air that traps energy from the Sun.
These heat-trapping gases are called greenhouse gases.
The most common greenhouse gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane.
Consequences of greenhouse effect:
Melting of glaciers: Due to an increase in the atmospheric temperature, the glaciers start melting resulting in an increase in water level.
Flooding in coastal areas: Due to the melting of glaciers and ice caps there is an increase in water level that results in floods in the coastal areas.
Desertification of fertile land: An increase in the temperature decreases the soil quality resulting in making the land infertile.
