Cardiac Catheterization:

  1. In process of the cardiac catheterization, a doctor inserts a catheter gently into the vein or artery in the neck, groin, or the heart to diagnose or treat certain heart conditions, such as clogged arteries or irregular heartbeats.
  2. To guide the process and catheter all the way accurately, X-rays are generally effective.
  3. In some cases, dye is also injected via the catheter.
  4. These assist the blood vessels to exhibit better on the outlines and images for any blockages.
  5. In case a blockage requires treatment, a balloon is then pushed into the catheter which is inflated to enhance flow of blood in the coronary arteries.
  6. A stent is used to keep open the dilated artery.
