What was revealed in Gregor Mendel's study of genetics?

Gregor Mendel:

1. Gregor Mendel worked on pea plants and discovered three fundamental laws of inheritance.
2. Inheritance is the passing of traits or characters from one generation to another.
3. Gregor Mendel stated that genes are in pairs and one gene is inherited from each parent.
4. Gregor Mendel studied the separation of parental genes and classified them as dominant and recessive traits.
5. The three laws of inheritance given by Gregor Mendel are: Law of dominance, Law of segregation and law of independent Assortment.

Law of Dominance:

The law of dominance states that when parents with pure, contrasting traits are crossed together, only one form of trait appears in the next generation. The trait which appears in the next generation is known as dominant trait.

Law of segregation:

The second law of inheritance explains that during the formation of gametes, the pair of alleles also segregate in such a manner that only one gamete receives only one of the two factors.

Law of independent assortment:

The third law of inheritance states that when two pairs of traits are combined in a hybrid, the segregation of one of the characters is independent of the other pair of traits.
