What is the difference between electrowinning and electrorefining?
Electrowinning | Electrorefining |
The process includes the electrodeposition of metals from its ores through leaching | The process includes the electrodeposition of metals from its ores, by putting them into the solution to remove impurities. |
The anodes is inert anode. | The anode is made up of impure metal. |
When electric current is pass through the solution from anode to cathode the pure metal is deposited on cathode | The impure metals get oxidized into the solution by the movement of ions, and thus pure metal is deposited on the cathode. |
Heavy metals can not be extracted easily through this process. | Heavy metals can be separated from the bulk of Uranium such as Cesium, Plutonium, Strontium |
