  1. Viruses are submicroscopic entities inhabiting host cells.
  2. In 1898, Martinus Beijerinck named the filtered infectious particle “virus”, during one of his studies.
  3. This discovery paved the way for the beginning of the stream of Virology.
  4. Viruses are small non-cellular entities with one or more molecules of either RNA or DNA enclosed in a coat of protein.
  5. They are non-living and reproduce only within the cells which are living and are obligate intracellular parasites.
