Write the word equation of the reaction which takes place when iron reacts with dilute sulphuric acid. What happens when the gas produced in the reaction is ignited with a burning matchstick?

1. Acids react with metals to form hydrogen gas and the respective metal salt. Iron and dilute sulphuric acid react as follows:
Iron+dil. Sulphuric acid→Iron sulphate+Hydrogen

2. Hydrogen gas evolved in this reaction. When hydrogen gas is ignited with a burning matchstick, it puts out the fire with a 'pop' sound.
