Question

12. How will you obtain dry oxygen in the laboratory

Open in App
Solution

Dry Oxygen (O2) :- Dry oxygen(O2) is heavier than moist O2 since the vapour density of dry O2 is more than moist O2.

  • Dryness is measured on the basis of moisture. The lesser the moisture content the drier it will be.

Dry oxygen in the laboratory

  • If oxygen gas is passed through a tower containing some drying agents like phosphorous pentoxide (P2O5) ,fused calcium chloride through concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4).
  • These dry agents absorb moisture from the gas and make it dry.
