The correct option is A North-west
Let the +ve x axis along the east direction and +ve y axis along the north direction.

The velocity of boat w.r.t river is given as,
vbr=4 ^i m/s

Velocity of river w.r.t ground,
vrg=2^j m/s

Velocity of wind w.r.t ground is,
vwg=6^j m/s

The direction of flag hoisted on the boat will be along the direction of velocity of wind w.r.t boat.

Applying the concept of relative velocity,
vwb=vwgvbg

Since vbr=vbgvrg

vwb=vwg(vbr+vrg)

vwb=6^j(4^i+2^j)

vwb=4^j4^i

Thus, tanθ=vyvx=1

θ=45

On observing the component of velocity for vwb, it is clear that the direction will be along north-west.


Hence, option (A) is correct.
