Free fall of body in vertical direction
At the extreme position, the velocity of the bob becomes zero. If the string is cut at this moment, then the bob will fall vertically downwards, just like under free fall.
Applying Newton’s second equation of motion in vertical direction
At the mean position, the velocity of bob is 1 m s−1 in the horizontal direction; then it will trace a projectile path having constant horizontal velocity i.e., 1 m s−1. under the influence of gravity which is acting vertically downward.
