The correct option is (A) 24 m/s towards west


Step 1, Given data

Mass of the body = 300 g = 0.3 kg

Mass of the broken part = 200 g = 0.2 kg

Velocity of the broken part = 12 m/s

Step 2, Finding the velocity of the second part

We know,

According to the law of conservation of linear momentum,

Initial momentum = Final momentum

0.3×0=0.2×120.1×v

After solving

v = 24 m/s

Hence, the Velocity of the other broken part is 24 m/s
