Solution

Food chain and energy transfer:

  • The food chain is the chain of transfer of energy and matter as food from one organism to another.

Biomagnification:

  • Biomagnification is the process of the accumulation of pesticides or toxic chemicals in different trophic levels.
  • The pesticides accumulated in grass are eaten by the grasshopper.
  • The frog eats grasshopper and the pesticide from the grasshopper gets transferred to the frog.
  • The accumulated pesticide gets passed onto the snake from the frog and then eventually it is transferred to the peacock.
  • The frogs pass to the snake, and eventually, the peacock gets all the pesticides accumulated at the trophic levels below them.
  • The organism present at the highest trophic level or the top of the food chain accumulates the maximum amount of the pesticide because this is a non-degradable toxic chemical.
  • Peacock will have the maximum amount of pesticide.
