A particle moves along $x -$ axis with speed $6 m / s$ for the first half distance of a journey and the second half distance with a speed $3 m / s$ The average speed in the total journey is :

The total time is given as,

$t = t_{1} + t_{2}$

$t = \frac{\frac{d}{2}}{6} + \frac{\frac{d}{2}}{3}$

$t = \frac{d}{4}$

The average speed is given as,

$v = \frac{d}{t}$

$v = \frac{d}{\frac{d}{4}}$

$v = 4 m / s$

Thus, the average speed in the total journey is $4 m / s$ .
