Here, m=1 g=103kg
h=1 km=1000 m=103m
The change in kinetic energy of the drop is
K=12mv20=12×103×50×50=1.25 J(u=0)
The work done by the gravitational force is
Wg=mgh=103×10×103=10 J
According to work-energy theorem
K=Wg+Wr
where Wr is the work done by the resistive force on the raindrop. Thus
Wr=KWg=1.25 J10 J=8.75 J.
