Question

A ray of light is incident on a horizontal plane mirror at an angle of incidence 30o. By what angle should the mirror be rotated so that the reflected ray becomes horizontal?

Solution

According to question, i=300

And from laws of reflection r=i=300

And from figure θ=900r=900300

θ=600

And we know that if we rotate mirror by α then reflected ray will rotate by 2α. Hence if we rotate mirror by 300 then reflected ray will rotates by 600 to be horizontal.
