Question

A ray of light travelling in a medium of refractive index μ is incident at an angle θ on a composite transparent plate consisting of 50 plates of R.I.1.01μ,1.02μ,1.03μ,......1.50μ The ray emerges from the composite plate into a medium of refractive index 1.6μ at angle 'x' then,

Solution

The correct option is B sin x=58sinθ
Refractive index and angle of incidence in initial medium is given by μ and θ respectively.
Similarly for the final medium, Refractive index and angle of emergence is given by 1.6μ and x respectively.
As, μ1.6μ=sin(x)sin(θ)
So, sin(x)=58sin(θ)
