A rectangular container with a base of 200 cm2 is filled with water to a height of 15 cm. If the container has a height of 20 cm, then how much water should be added to fill it completely?
Given:
Area of base =a=200 cm2
Height of container =20 cm
Volume of the container =(l×b)×h=a×h=200 cm2×20 cm=4000 cm 3
We know that 1000 cm3=1 l,
So the capacity of the container is 4 l.
Water is filled to a height of 15 cm.
Volume of filled water in tank =(l×b)×h=200 cm3×15 cm=3000 cm 3
So the volume of filled water is 3 l.
Amount of water to be added
=Capacity of the container− Volume of filled water
∴The quantity of water required to fill the container completely is 1 l.
