The initial mass of the shell m =10kg

The velocity of the shell v =10ms-1

Mass of the first part of the shell m1 =9kg

Mass of the second part of the shell m2 =1kg

The velocity of the first part of the shell v1 =0ms-1 (as it is stationary)

assume the velocity of the second shell as v2

Step 2. Finding the velocity of the second shell:

By the principle of conservation of momentum we have,

mv=m1v1+m2v2

Putting the values, we get

10×10=9×0+1×v2

v2=100ms-1
