Do Prokaryotes have rough and smooth ER?

Open in App
Solution

Prokaryotes:

  1. A prokaryote is a single-celled species without a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles, according to the prokaryotic cell definition.
  2. Only eukaryotic cells have smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, which is absent in prokaryotic cells.
  3. The endoplasmic reticulum serves as a transportation system for eukaryotic cells, as well as a myriad of other functions such as protein folding.
  4. This type of organelle is made up of two subunits: rough endoplasmic reticulum and smooth endoplasmic reticulum
  5. Rough ER gets its name from the rough appearance of ribosomes adhered to an ER's surface.
  6. The surface of a smooth ER, on the other hand, is devoid of ribosomes.
