Solution

(a) Gametes are reproductive cells (sex cells) that unite during sexual reproduction to form a new cell called a zygote. Male gametes are sperm and female gametes are ova (eggs).

(b) Because of a process called meiosis, each gamete contains only one copy of each chromosome. When these haploid gametes combine to form a diploid zygote, genetic material is passed from both parents to form a genetically different organism.

(c) The process of fusion of male and female gamete is called FERTILIZATION. When the male and female gametes fuse they form a cell called ZYGOTE. The Zygote develops into an EMBRYO.

(d) The noun fusion comes from the Latin word founder, meaning melt, so fusion is the act of melting things together. In science, fusion is the process of merging atoms together to create energy. Fusion is also used as an adjective. Fusion cuisine is the combination of at least two different ways of cooking.
