What is a mixture?

Mixture - when two or more substances are mixed physically in any variable proportion in such a way that they retain their individual properties is called a mixture.

For example - sugar syrup, common salt solution, sand and salt.

Why air is a mixture?

Air is a mixture due to following reasons

  1. It consists of many gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapour.
  2. The composition of air is nitrogen(78%), oxygen(21%), carbon dioxide, water vapour, dust, and other gases make the rest of the air.
  3. The composition of air is not the same in all places.
