Solution

Definition of reducing agents

Any substance which is capable of reducing other substance is called reducing agents. Reducing agents is capable of releasing electrons gained during reduction.

  • Group 1 elements are called alkali metals.
  • Its valence shell contain 1 electron.
  • They have low ionisation potential and having smallest nuclear charge.
  • They have a tendency to lose electrons, to attains noble gas electronic configuration.

For example, Alkali metals like Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs have greater atomic size and lowest ionisation energy . So they are good reducing agents
