Solution

Answer: (b). Assertion and reason both are wrong statements.
Correct Assertion(A): Phenol form 2, 4, 6-tribromophenol on treatment with bromine in water. In phenols, the polarization of bromine takes place even in the absence of Lewis acid.

Correct Reason (R): In water, phenol gives phenoxide ion. This phenoxide ion activates the ring towards electrophilic substitution reaction.
