Apomixis (Apo- without, mixis- fusion) is a mode of reproduction in some plants which results in the formation of seeds without genetic fusion. Apomixis is a form of asexual reproduction that mimics sexual reproduction but produces seeds without fertilisation. Apomictic seeds develop in many ways- (1) Diploid egg cells are formed due to endoreplication that divide and form embryo without fertilisation or (2) Nucellar cells surrounding the embryo sac start dividing and protrude into embryo sac and develop into the embryos.
