At the height 80m, an aeroplane is moving with 150 ms1. A bomb is dropped from it, so as to hit a target. At what distance from the target should bomb be dropped? (g=10ms2).

Solution

Given speed of aeroplane =150 m/s and height of the plane from the surface =80 m.
Now horizontal distance BC covered by the bomb =vH×2hg
150×2×8010=150×4=600m
Now distance between the target and dropping point of the bomb AC=BC2+AB2=6002+802=605.3m
