Solution
We consume iodised salt in our diet, it contains iodine which is necessary for producing thyroxine in the thyroid gland.
Thyroxine controls the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and hence helps in the proper growth of the body.
The decreased intake of iodine causes a condition called goitre that leads to the swelling of the thyroid gland which is visible as a swollen neck.
