Mycorrhiza is a symbiotic association between fungus and the roots of higher plants. In this association, the fungal hyphae form a closely woven mass around the rootlets or penetrate the cells of the root and enhance nutrition and water uptake by the roots of the plants. Such plants are resistant to water stress, root borne pathogens, salinity etc. The roots in turn provide essential nutrients for the growth of the fungi.
