Question

Calculate:

a) the gram molecular mass of chlorine if 308 cm cube of it at STP weighs 0.979 grams

B) the volume of 4 gram of H2 at 4 atmospheres.

C) the mass of oxygen in 2.2 litres of carbon dioxide at STP

Open in App
Solution

a)
1 mole of any ideal gas occupies 22.4 L or 22,400 cm^3

You have 308 cm^3 so you have 0.01375 mole

molar mass = 0.979 g / 0.01375 mole = 71.2 g/mole

b)
Assuming the temperature to be 273k
PV=nRT
thus V=nRT/P
n=no.of moles=4/2=2(molar mass of H2=2)
Thus V=2×0.082×273/4
=11.193litres

c)
1 mol contain 32 gms
22.4 liters of oxygen has 32 gm mass
so 2.2 liters =3.14
