Solution

Definition:

Gram equivalent mass:

  1. Gram equivalent mass can be defined as the mass of one equivalent of that substance.
  2. That is the mass of a given substance that will combine with or displace a fixed quantity of another substance.

Given:

  1. The atomic mass of potassium (K): 39.098 g.
  2. The atomic mass of oxygen (O): 15.999 g.
  3. The atomic mass of hydrogen: 1.008 g.

Solution.

  1. The gram equivalent mass of KOH = MassofPotassium(K)+Massofoxygen(O)+Massofhydrogen(H)

= 39.098g+15.999g+1.008g

= 56.105g

Gram equivalent mass of KOH is 56.105g.
