Question

Calculate the perimeter of the given figure.

Open in App
Solution

Perimter is the length of the boundary of a closed planar figure.
i.e., Perimeter = Sum of all the sides
Perimeter = AB + BC +CD + DE + EF + FG + GH + HA
In the given figure, sides FE and ED are unknown.
But,
HG + FE + CD = AB
1.2 + FE + 0.8 = 5.6
2 + FE = 5.6
FE = 5.6 - 2 = 3.6 cm
Similarly,
GF = ED = 5.8 cm and
AH = BC = 6.4 cm
So, perimeter of the figure
= AB + BC +CD + DE + EF + FG + GH + HA
= 5.6 cm + 6.4 cm + 0.8 cm + 5.8 cm + 3.6 cm +5.8 cm + 1.2 cm + 6.4 cm
= 35.6 cm
