Question

Can plants read human DNA?

Open in App
Solution

DNA

  1. Deoxyribonucleic Acid or DNA is the genetic material of all eukaryotic organisms.
  2. It contains specific sets of information called genes that are used for protein synthesis.
  3. Each and every cell transcribes or reads the information in DNA for development, functioning, growth, and reproduction.

Plants

  1. Plants are not able to read human DNA.
  2. DNA constitutes genes that are read and transcribed into protein required by the organism.
  3. Plants and humans have completely different requirements of proteins at different times and levels for various biological functions.
  4. The more difference in the relationship among organisms, the lesser the possibility of recognizing and reading each other's genes.
  5. So even if plants accept human DNA or gene, it would eventually lead to disruption of normal biological functions and the cell would most likely die.
