CH3COCl + H2 in presence of Pd and BaSO4 the product is -

Open in App
Solution

Acetyl chloride in presence of BaSO4 gets reduced into alcohol but if we use Pd(Palladium) with barium sulphate it will act as a poison and acetyl chloride will be reduced only up to aldehyde only.

CH3COCl+H2→BaSO4/PdCH3CHO

Some of the reducing agents are as follows:

  1. Sodium borohydride (NaBH4)
  2. Lithium aluminium hydride (LiAlH4)
  3. Diisobutyl aluminium hydride (DIBAlH)
