During gametogenesis, genes present on the same chromosome may get assorted into different gametes as a result of crossing over. The genes that are present very close to each other or genes that are tightly linked on a chromosome rarely get separated. But genes that are linked, that is present on the same chromosome, but distant to each other, such that they can be exchanged between chromosomes, undergo recombination during crossing over. Such genes are called incompletely linked genes.
