Barrier methods of birth control:

  1. Some physical device is used to prevent the entry of sperm in the female genital tract.
  2. These devices are available for both males and females. They are:

Condom:

  1. It is used by men only.
  2. It prevents the deposition of semen into the vagina.
  3. The use of condoms also protects both males and females from sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS.

Diaphragm:

  1. It is a rounded latex cap with a coiled spring.
  2. It can be fitted deep in the vagina on the mouth of the uterus.
  3. It prevents the entry of sperm into the uterus.

Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD):

  1. Commonly known as loop or copper-T is inserted in the uterus of the female.
