The process of selecting parent animals with desirable characteristics such as longer hair, softer under hair, larger size, so that they can produce offspring with those desirable characteristic is called selective breeding. The word “selective” is used because parents are selected by humans to produce desirable characteristics. “Breeding” is the production of offspring by animals.
